Public Involvement Public Meetings Throughout the Noise Compatibility Study public meetings will be held at milestones in the process. The public meetings are open to the general public and will be advertised via The State Paper and mailed announcements. Milestones occur as the project team completes major portions of the study. Currently, meetings are scheduled at the following milestones:
Advisory Committee Another way in which the public will be involved is through representation on the Advisory Committee. Each of the three major residential areas located at the ends of the runways have a designated representative on this committee. Other members of the Advisory Committee include representatives from Lexington County Planning and Development, Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, United Parcel Service, and the Federal Aviation Administration. Technical Committees After the development of the noise exposure map is completed, two committees of technical experts will work to develop appropriate noise abatement procedures and land use guidelines. The Noise Abatement Technical Committee will be made up of representatives from commercial passenger airlines, cargo airlines, general aviation and the Federal Aviation Administration. The Land Use Technical Committee will have planning or zoning representatives from each of the local communities that neighbor the airport, including Lexington County. |
